چکیده

A scintillator-based lost fast-ion probe (LIP) was designed and constructed to measure energetic-ion-losses caused by energetic-ion-drivenMHD instabilities such as Alfvén eigenmodes in the Large Helical Device (LHD). It provides information about the pitch angle and gyroradius of the lost energetic ions simultaneously. It is installed at the outboard side of a horizontally elongated poloidal cross section to detect co-going energetic ions. Two apertures of the LIP were designed to detect energetic ions, whose pitch angle and gyroradius are 35-50 degrees and 1.5-15 cm at the detector position, respectively. The scintillator P46 was adopted because it has high luminosity even in a high temperature environment. The scintillation light emitted from the scintillator surface by the impact of lost energetic ions is detected using an array of photomultiplier tubes with high time-resolution (up to 200 kHz) and an image-intensified C-MOS camera (up to 2 kHz).

Installation of Bidirectional Lost Fast-Ion Probe in the Large Helical Device

A bidirectional scintillator-based lost fast-ion probe is installed to measure fast-ion losses induced by energetic-ion-driven magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities in the Large Helical Device (LHD). It has two set of an aperture assembly so as to measure losses of co-going fast-ions in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions of the toroidal field. Each aperture assembly was designed t...

Fast-ion transport during repetitive burst phenomena of Toroidal Alfvén Eigenmodes in the Large Helical Device

Alfvén instabilities induced fast-ion losses have been directly observed for the first time by a newly developed scintillator lost ion probe (SLIP) in the Large Helical Device (LHD). The SLIP can measure the pitch angle and gyro radius of escaped fast ions toward loss region. Neutral beam driven Alfvén Eigenmodes (AEs) are excited under the reactor relevant conditions: the ratio of fast ion (be...

Fast ion charge exchange spectroscopy adapted for tangential viewing geometry in LHD.

A tangential Fast Ion Charge eXchange Spectroscopy is newly applied on a Large Helical Device (LHD) for co/countercirculating fast ions, which are produced by high energy tangential negative-ion based neutral beam injection. With this new observation geometry, both the tangential-neutral beam (NB) and a low-energy radial-NB based on positive ions can be utilized as probe beams of the measuremen...

The observation of nonlinear ion cyclotron wave excitation during high-harmonic fast wave heating in the large helical device.

A wave detector, a newly designed magnetic probe, is installed in the large helical device (LHD). This wave detector is a 100-turn loop coil with electrostatic shield. Comparing a one-loop coil to this detector, this detector has roughly constant power coupling in the lower frequency range of 40 MHz, and it can easily detect magnetic wave in the frequency of a few megahertz. During high-harmoni...

Wave Motion and Stop-Bands in Pipes with Helical Characteristics Using Wave Finite Element Analysis

Pipes are widely used in many industrial and mechanical applications and devices. Although there are many different constructions according to the specific application and device, these can show helical pattern, such as spiral pipes, wire-reinforced pipes/shells, spring-suspension, and so on. Theoretical modelling of wave propagation provides a prediction about the dynamic behavior, and it is f...
